TEST DRIVE

Welcome to Ryslig's test drive meme! If you're considering apping here, this is where you can try your characters out in the game's setting. A few things to note:

• You can only app ONE character per round so choose wisely.
• We now have a Quick Game Facts that simplifies the basic information about the game. Good if you want to see what the game is at a glance!

• The Reserve date is MAY 20ST 12:01AM EST.
• There is an Enable Me / App this Plz to see what some people are offering or would love to play.
• Test drive meme threads can be used for your roleplay sample!
• Players with characters already in the game can earn up to a maximum of 6 coins by replying to potential character threads! You cannot use this to go over the bonus 20 coins per month total, but you can use it to reach that coin total. Same rules as normal bonuses apply.

Sample scenarios:

SCENARIO ONE: So you've just arrived, and already SOME the natives are trying to get on your good side. Offers of food, shelter and other luxuries in return for hoping you don't eat them. They even have some helpful pamphlets to share with you. "How To Deal With Changes", "Alternatives to Human Flesh", "What to Expect When You're Expecting (to turn into a monster)" are all great pamphlets. There's even some detailing certain monsters, and the changes they go through. Some of these seem to have been passed down from one monster to the next.

Among these however, are some... not so helpful ones. "Bunnyipyips And You", "Axe Thief Axehounds," and "So you're becoming a Fur Bearing Trout" among others. Sometimes they have marks on them from previous people who had them saying they are lies, or pointing out good "jokes."

Then there's the people who aren't happy to see you at all. Glares and silent, judging stares if you're lucky. Torches and pitchforks attempting to drive you out of the town if you're not. You may need a friend to help you.

SCENARIO TWO: You've become hopelessly lost in Lager Woods. Paths don't seem to lead where you remember them leading, and you feel as if you're going around in circles. Childlike giggling can be heard from no direction in particular. Suddenly, you stumble upon another character, who seems to be just as lost as you! Perhaps you can find a way out together. Or maybe they want you for lunch...

SCENARIO THREE: The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? NOTE: Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.

SCENARIO FOUR: The claws, the fangs, the pangs of hunger - horrible as they all are, it's manageable given enough time and perseverance. Local monster hunters, though, not so much.

Maybe it started with a few wayward glances on the outskirts of town, critical stares and disapproving whispers, or just the misfortune of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Whatever it was, deserved or entirely unprovoked, you're being hunted: a handful of aggressive, well-armed humans doggedly chase your trail throughout city streets and out into the open, and if you're not careful (if you don't find help soon) you might wind up as the next trophy kill claim on one of those hunter's walls.

[At the mention of them being monster hunters, and wanting to kill him for his fur, Osomatsu lets out a shocked gasp and his tail wraps around the front of him so he can hug it close to his chest.]

Y-you mean like... like they were gonna kill me and make my skin into a hat or-- o-or hang my head above their front entrance or something?!

Probably. I know they do weird stuff like that all the time - I mean, when they're shouting stuff at me, it's always about how "Minotaur ivory" goes for a high price as a Naga repellent, or how "amazing" my horns would look over a fireplace.
I don't even know what they'd do to even make it into repellent...
And I'm pretty sure I don't want to know, either.

[Said as she brings a hand to one of her horns nearly unconsciously, rubbing it a bit.
As much as she hates her horns, she... doesn't really feel like forcefully parting from them.
If they fell off? Sure, whatever. But otherwise, no.]

What are you, anyway? I've never seen someone turn into something so...
Ugh, don't take this the wrong way or get any gross ideas - but I've never seen a monster this cute before.
Werewolves usually get, y'know, intimidating... and Manticores are definitely part bug.

But all you have is fluff, like you're part stuffed animal. Definitely not a scary looking monster at all.

[At Jyushimatsu's compliments, Osomatsu wags his tail some more and walks around in a little circle to show off his cuteness.]

Riiiight?

[He flops back onto his hind legs then, and proudly tilts his head back and forth so his ears flop a bit.]

I mean, it's actually pretty useless 'cause all it's good for is being cute but I bet girls would eat this shit up! [He "bets", because he's been too shy to actually try it out on his own...]

it's such a fun setting for them too!

[Osomatsu holds his hands out in front of himself defensively, all of a sudden.]

I-it doesn't feel that great at the start, but maybe this place is somewhere really cool? Maybe all this "turning into monsters" crap is just some.. some.... cheap ploy to get you into whatever shitty setting they have here?

I mean, look at this place!

[He gestures widely then, at the world around them, and he takes in a deep breath before he continues.]

We're next to the ocean... and I've already been given free food, free offers to stay at motels and junk in town-- it can't be that bad!

[Osomatsu just.. silently pets his tail while listening to Mahiru's terrifying stories of people threatening to make her into Naga repellent or hanging her horns over their fireplace.

Surely, he's underestimated the shittiness of the locals here... though, how were you supposed to expect them to be hostile after being handed food and a warm place to stay for the first month?]

O-oh, me?

[He's grateful for the change of subject though, and even gives her a grin.]

I'm s'posed to be a Werebear, I guess? [He lets go of his tail then, and gets up to his feet with a small shrug.]

I dunno if a red panda is actually a type of bear or not... but I'm totally cute, right?

[He leans towards Mahiru then, bowing his head a little in her direction.]

But... I'll admit, I'm definitely jealous. I mean, look at you - that big, fluffy tail is totally cute.

Ugh, a girl like me shouldn't be stuck as a Minotaur, of all things. It's gross.

Checking out that gash on his face, since it's still bleeding... Seeing as it's not that bad, though, she's going to root through the messenger bag over her shoulder, pulling out a small, portable first aid kit.

[L has always disliked it when others dismiss him, for his youth or his slovenly appearance or any number of other factors that work against him and clash with preconceived notions of authority. He's used to it, of course, but that makes it no less annoying. Especially now that there isn't a Watari and a screen to hide behind while he makes his hard-hitting points and observations..]

[He says so like someone who never thought of himself as such, even though a Death Note could and did kill him in the end.]

Isn't that how it works? I can't say I've ever seen evidence to suggest otherwise.

[ So Ed is known to be lacking some skills in observations at times, and he really didn't mean to trip over a person--- even less over a child. That's definitely a child.

He sits up - because with his level of grace, he fell to the ground in a most dignified-lacking manner - and he looks over at the child with a worried and apologetic frown on his face. ]

I'm sorry, are you alright, it's so dark that I didn't see you, I should have been paying more attention to where I was putting my feet.

[ Oh, wow. There were so many words Ron's crying was halted for a moment by the tiny boy staring up at the much older and bigger one.

He only got about half of that, especially with his sobbing blocking out the words. ]

That's pretty hazy. Some people think it's something about a war between the 'gods' [she does air quotes as she speaks the word, but then immediately turns to start searching through a little messenger bag sitting at her side] and some people say it's because the one called the Fog God feeds on our energy when we change. When we... eat.

[The last word lands significantly but it seems like a bit much to explain right now. Instead, she pulls a water bottle from her bag and holds it out to Jessica.]

Do you want some water? Revelations like this can really take it out of you.

[He scratches the back of his head.]

I don't know if they can even do that. Whoever they are...

[ He's pretty sure murderers and thieves go to hell even if they pray. ]

[ Before Reira changes his mind! He takes Reira's hand and pulls at him in a random direction.

Which might not be the right direction because Ron really doesn't know where to go. ]

[She is pretty sure people will notice the difference between a raccoon and a kitten. But she shrugs and climbs into the cardboard box, because eh, why not. Not like she's doing anything else at the moment.]

When Wirt steps out from behind the tree - well, Lorna would like to say she responds favorably, but she's not certain that she does. She tries to keep her expression from twisting up, presses her lips together firmly to keep from gasping or dropping her jaw.

This is...certainly a change, alright.

Clearing her throat, Lorna presses her fingertips to her lips, her gaze dropping down and to the side - anywhere other than at Wirt, really. He's not hard to look at, exactly, just - well, it's distressing, seeing him this way. Not simply because he strikes a rather unsettling figure, but because she can only imagine how terrible he must feel, being the way he is at all hours of the day. At least her own curse allowed her to keep some semblance of her humanity, but this...

"You...you know there is no shame in it, don't you? In being otherwise?"

She finally looks back to Wirt, her fingers moving from her mouth to curl around her arm, holding it in a way that does not bring as much comfort as she hoped it would.

"You are allowed to be unhappy, Wirt. For my sake, as well as your own, you need not lie to me."

Well...I just got wings, so...no, not really.

[Jimmy has to give Osomatsu a bit of a look then, because- while he's all for believing that because it DOES sound cool- there are a few things that still don't check out.]

Weeell...I guess you could be right? It's just so weird, though. The ocean doesn't look anything like this back home. I've never seen it all blue like that, or the sky either for that matter. But there's still monsters around, like home?

I keep feeling like I wound up on the wrong side of Miseryville, but nothing really looks the same!
