TEST DRIVE

Welcome to Ryslig's test drive meme! If you're considering apping here, this is where you can try your characters out in the game's setting. A few things to note:

You can only app ONE character per round so choose wisely.

Test drive meme threads can be used for your roleplay sample!
Players with characters already in the game can earn up to a maximum of 6 coins by replying to potential character threads! You cannot use this to go over the bonus 20 coins per month total, but you can use it to reach that coin total. Same rules as normal bonuses apply.

Sample scenarios:

SCENARIO ONE: So you've just arrived, and already SOME the natives are trying to get on your good side. Offers of food, shelter and other luxuries in return for hoping you don't eat them. They even have some helpful pamphlets to share with you. "How To Deal With Changes", "Alternatives to Human Flesh", "What to Expect When You're Expecting (to turn into a monster)" are all great pamphlets. There's even some detailing certain monsters, and the changes they go through. Some of these seem to have been passed down from one monster to the next.

Among these however, are some... not so helpful ones. "Bunnyipyips And You", "Axe Thief Axehounds," and "So you're becoming a Fur Bearing Trout" among others. Sometimes they have marks on them from previous people who had them saying they are lies, or pointing out good "jokes."

Then there's the people who aren't happy to see you at all. Glares and silent, judging stares if you're lucky. Torches and pitchforks attempting to drive you out of the town if you're not. You may need a friend to help you.

SCENARIO TWO: You've become hopelessly lost in Lager Woods. Paths don't seem to lead where you remember them leading, and you feel as if you're going around in circles. Childlike giggling can be heard from no direction in particular. Suddenly, you stumble upon another character, who seems to be just as lost as you! Perhaps you can find a way out together. Or maybe they want you for lunch...

SCENARIO THREE: The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? NOTE: Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.

SCENARIO FOUR: The claws, the fangs, the pangs of hunger - horrible as they all are, it's manageable given enough time and perseverance. Local monster hunters, though, not so much.

Maybe it started with a few wayward glances on the outskirts of town, critical stares and disapproving whispers, or just the misfortune of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Whatever it was, deserved or entirely unprovoked, you're being hunted: a handful of aggressive, well-armed humans doggedly chase your trail throughout city streets and out into the open, and if you're not careful (if you don't find help soon) you might wind up as the next trophy kill claim on one of those hunter's walls.

Am I so insufferable? [That does make him laugh quietly, as he takes a moment to just sit, to gather himself. It seems that no sooner is one trial over that they begin a new trial, and it is... not ideal.

He hasn't even had the chance to bury his brother.

Moping won't help either of them. He's glad that Laurent gives him these few moments, because he thinks he needed it, but soon he's sitting up again, the points of contact between them reduced to their clasped hands.] One more challenge, one where we don't know the rules. People with tails and horns and fur like beasts... Who would have thought?

Ah, okay.

[Freya hasn't really been around kids for the last eleven years and the memories still leave a bitter taste in her mouth. She sighs softly and then kneels down to make eye contact with the kid.]

Okay, we can figure this out then. What's the last thing you remember?

[She remembers stepping into a comic shop which is probably unhelpful.]

[ He sucks on his thumb, trying to decide if he should tell her or not. Some adults just couldn't handle these kind of things. ]

Um. I think I killed myself. Maybe.

[Not what she was expecting.]

So maybe we're dead?

[She doesn't think that's the case but its certainly an interesting piece of information. She wants to ask why but she is just going to log that question away for later.]

Though I don't think so. [She feels to sore to be dead.] Where were you when you killed yourself?

By the lake in Hokkaido. The Heart of Akuro went through everyone so we'd kill ourselves.

[ Like a lot of kids, he also answers questions he hasn't been asked. ]

We were supposed to be saved by it, Oji-san said, but he lied.

Wait... Hokkaido Japan?

[She's been to Japan but that is a weird story in and of itself.]

Who's Oji-san?

[She wonders how they can understand each other also. She speaks japanese but it isn't' at all fluent and it feels like she's speaking english now.

This is getting weirder.]

Yeah?

[ Where else? He only knows of one Hokkaido. ]

Katsumata-ojisan saved Asou when were kicked out of the orphanage and we were gonna clean the world.

[ hotaru, so polite... what a good bean. needless to say, it puffs up tsuru's ego extra big! ]

I don't know, actually... [ about where he got them, he means. ] If you stay here long enough, you start... uh, changing.

[ but— ] It's not so bad that we're not swords anymore — here, do you want a lift? I'll carry you over the trees.

Clean out the world how?

[She tries to keep her voice gentle but she really wishes this kid would give her more to work with. She is trying to remember everything from the last time she had been in Japan. She spent most of the time around Tyoko.]

[ Even though Tsurumaru's explanation is vague, Hotarumaru nods along as it it makes 100% perfect sense to him. At the offer of being carried... well, Hotaru wouldn't usually so readily accept, since he's fine being independent. But, y'know, being flown around was a different story. ]

Yeah. I won't weigh you down, much.

[ He reaches out to Tsuru so he can be easily picked up. ]

Mm, we're not swords anymore, huh? That's why I feel weird, right.

Kill the people who didn't have the suicide virus, I think.

[ And now he might be dead too. Not part of what they were told at all, but when he heard Katsumata manipulate Asou's mind... Now he knows they were never supposed to survive this. ]

What's the suicide virus?

[She does not remember that being in Japan. That sounds like something very news worthy.]

Everyone who got it killed themselves. Except a few of us who turned into comrades instead.

[ How come he is explaining Hell Week to a grown up? ]

[The name sorta implies what it is.]

Okay, I don't remember that happening anywhere in Japan.

[This is so weird.]

It did for like a week.

[ The name really does say it all. ]

One day, Lorna promises herself this, she will stop being so very easy to startle. That day is not today. That day will not come for a while yet, she's afraid, but so help her it will come.

She very nearly walks straight into Beatrice when the other girl stops short, and it's thanks only to a quick backwards movement on Lorna's part that they don't wind up colliding like marbles.

She murmurs a quick and quiet apology, despite no harm being done, and takes a step backwards to put a more comfortable distance between the two of them.

"A-aye. Ever since I was a girl, I had been ill. A terrible hunger would overcome me and I would become...warped, driven to wickedness. I-in many ways, I was then such as you are now."

And there it is, a note of sympathy in her voice, a sad sort of understanding that comes only from knowing all too well how terrible someone else's plight truly is.

I'd appreciate that.

[ If he could feel bad, he would feel bad; he doesn't because he can't, but he knows that he should and that's a burden on its own. Because don't think he missed the yellow eyes. And he knows, knows, full well that he's not in his own world at this point, that he's someplace else that works some other way. The man is almost certainly not one of the Withered. Definitely not some fallen god of ancient history, once worshiped and now forgotten, scratching out an existence in sad backwaters and the unsearched corners of human civilization.

That hasn't stopped him from working on how he can kill the man in the back of his brain. Which methods might work best. How to get a weapon, how to make one if he can't get one, where to hide it, how to get close enough to use it. Because the man looks like a Withered and that's what he does. ]

What business do you have? Here, I mean? Or... that you have a truck for?

[She really wants to know how she could have missed that.]

Um... Asou knows the date.

[ Don't expect him to remember dates when he can barely remember his own birthday. ]

[ Asou is dead. And now Ron is crying. ]

Luckily for Wirt, Lorna is too busy being relieved enough to start weeping with joy to really notice the awkward path his eyes trace from her hands to her face. Another time, she might have caught that look and begun blushing furiously herself, but the fates seem to be in a merciful mood tonight well, relatively speaking. They're merciful enough to spare them both the embarrassment of dealing with their own teenage awkwardness, at least. They're not budging on the whole monster business.

Lorna's cautious smile grows into something stronger, with more confidence. Her teeth flash briefly before she presses her lips firmly together, knowing it isn't proper to grin quite so broadly at a boy who she scarcely knows. She takes a half-step forward, wanting to move into a more comfortable speaking-distance, but stops after clearing just a foot or so. If Wirt isn't trying to meet her half-way then perhaps - perhaps she ought to just stay where she is.

"Aye, it would be a most twisted mind that would imagine us brought together this way."

She doesn't say it out loud, but Lorna had always imagined something, well, softer for their reunion. Sunnier skies, a happier disposition for them both, maybe tea and biscuits and other such niceties. In times when she felt a little more adventurous, she even dared to imagine him bringing flowers, though she would never ever admit that to anyone, least of all Wirt himself.

"You're fairing well, I hope? With the changes and the...the part you know I am quite familiar with."

Oh no.

[Freya isn't good with kids crying. She awkwardly hugs him, letting him cry on his shoulder. Okay, new topic. Finding out where they are though she'll wait for him to stop crying first.]

There there, it's okay. Well, it'll be okay. You're friend isn't here but you are and I bet they'll be happy to know that you're safe.

[And not dead.]

[ The thought of Asou being dead hurts a lot more than anyone else being so, even himself. And he hasn't thought about it properly until now. ]

Y-you think...?

[Freya nods with a confident smile.]

Yup. That's the amazing part about those close to us. They care for us so much, that even when they aren't around they want you to stay safe.

[There is no way she can leave this kid alone.]

[ He has to ask, as they're talking about Asou and people who care about you. ]

D-do priests go to h-heaven even if they m-murder people...?

[That's a complicated question for Freya which is probably why she puts a lot of thought into it before answering.]

It depends. [She isn't going to lie to the kid.]

Tell me about him. Why did he kill people?
