[Stine sighs at the first thing out of the other's mouth. the fight leaves him very quickly; that's one of the upsides of his temper. if he's honest, he finds Champ more irritating than this guy; they have similar personalities, he supposes. so it's not all bad.

but Champ. even thinking about him of all possible people makes him feel bad. he'll laugh at himself later for that, but it's true and it's in these raw moments of unchecked emotion that make him realize certain truths: he does miss those kids. he was wrong about him and Zach. so very wrong. and Hannah...

those two were just fixtures. important fixtures, but they weren't his world. not like his daughter is.

his shoulders sag and he keeps his head slightly tilted in Papyrus' direction as he turns back to the path in front of them. in that instant, he doesn't look like a high-strung bundle of nerves. he looks lost. bitter.]
