TEST DRIVE: NOVMEMEBER (get it because it's a meme)

TEST DRIVE
Welcome to Ryslig's test drive meme! If you're considering apping here, this is where you can try your characters out in the game's setting. A few things to note:

  • You can only app ONE character per round so choose wisely.
  • We now have a Quick Game Facts that simplifies the basic information about the game. Good if you want to see what the game is at a glance!
  • Ryslig's FAQ is located here, so please take a look if you have questions.
  • The reserve date is 11/27.
  • Test drive meme threads can be used for your roleplay sample!
  • Players with characters already in the game can earn up to a maximum of 6 coins by replying to potential character threads! You cannot use this to go over the bonus 20 coins per month total, but you can use it to reach that coin total. Same rules as normal bonuses apply.

Sample scenarios:
SCENARIO ONE: So you've just arrived, fresh out of the hospital, and already the natives are trying to get on your good side. Offers of food, shelter and other luxuries in return for hoping you don't eat them. They even have some helpful pamphlets to share with you. "How To Deal With Changes", "Alternatives to Human Flesh", "What to Expect When You're Expecting (to turn into a monster)" are all great pamphlets. There's even some detailing certain monsters, and the changes they go through. Some of these seem to have been passed down from one monster to the next.

Among these however, are some... not so helpful ones. "Bunnyipyips And You", "Axe Thief Axehounds," and "So you're becoming a Fur Bearing Trout" among others. Sometimes they have marks on them from previous people who had them saying they are lies, or pointing out good "jokes."

SCENARIO TWO: You've become hopelessly lost in Lager Woods. Paths don't seem to lead where you remember them leading, and you feel as if you're going around in circles. Childlike giggling can be heard from no direction in particular. Suddenly, you stumble upon another character, who seems to be just as lost as you! Perhaps you can find a way out together. Or maybe they want you for lunch...

SCENARIO THREE: The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? NOTE: Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.

SCENARIO FOUR:The claws, the fangs, the pangs of hunger - horrible as they all are, it's manageable given enough time and perseverance. Local monster hunters, though, not so much.

Maybe it started with a few wayward glances on the outskirts of town, critical stares and disapproving whispers, or just the misfortune of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Whatever it was, deserved or entirely unprovoked, you're being hunted: a handful of aggressive, well-armed humans doggedly chase your trail throughout city streets and out into the open, and if you're not careful (if you don't find help soon) you might wind up as the next trophy kill claim on one of those hunter's walls.

[At the mention of Red Kryptonite Danny's eyes light up for a moment. It could just be a coincidence (one hell of a big one), or another case of his world being fictional to someone else, but either way, it's interesting.]

Yeaaah. I kinda got the feeling that they weren't really as helpful as they liked to think they were. Don't worry about it. Ask away, so long as you don't mind me returning the favor. And I've definitively never been accused of trying to over please, so don't worry about that either.

[ A playful smirk tugs at his mouth, but it's a tad bit forced. There's a temptation to tell the guy out right just why the towns people act that way, in the case that he hadn't already figured it out. He's going to have to find out one way or another. But for the moment he decides to let it go. Tackle one topic at a time.]

Supposedly the fog is caused by some kind of entity with cosmic powers that calls herself the Fog God. Clever name right? Everyone says she's the one that brought us here in the first place. I've never seen any evidence of them, but people swear by her. Some of them literally.

[Now he smiles a little more genuinely, looking at Jimmy with clear curiosity.]

Soooo...you come from a universe with Kryptonite?

[He'd never heard of a case of Red Kryptonite. But maybe he just hadn't hit any of the case files involving it.]

Scenario One
[The pamphlets are not as helpful as the villagers make them out to be because all of what was happening was too ridiculous. His life seemed to be an endless series of improbabilities from his own current existence to aliens, gods and living technology. He should have given up long ago on trying to make sense of the world but he never had.

There are notes and drawings in several of them, and the drawings draw a smile from the soldier. The ridiculous nature of cartoonish humans acquiring monster parts remind him of his own sketches during his time as the Star Spangled Circus Monkey, or so he had imagined himself.

He found a place to sit on the outskirts of town, flipping through the pamphlets and giving them each a read through just to be thorough. If by some chance his life was about to take an even more drastic turn into the bizarre and unbelievable, he wanted to be prepared. And he had always enjoyed reading.

He was not too enraptured in the pamphlets to pay attention to the other people wandering around, however. Periodically he looked up to watch the other people in the town, trying to find a familiar face or get a feel for the people around him now.]

Scenario Two/Three/Four
[The first major, life and body altering event of his life had not come with nearly so many unfortunate side effects. Most of them had been positive with the exception of his tolerance level for alcohol. This event did not have a more drastic affect on his physical condition, but in his own opinion a far more negative one.

His skin had taken on a greenish hue that had first made him fear he was going to suffer the same side effects Bruce had and 'Hulk' out. His ears had grown to a point, his height had increased another half a foot, and his hair had lengthened and taken on an almost slimy and leaf like texture. His fingernails had darkened and his adrenaline raced, putting him on edge in ways he had not felt even during the war.

It stopped there, and with it had stopped his fear of becoming the Hulk. He was still mostly of is own mind and not consumed by rage, only confusion. The trees around him were no comfort beyond his assumed isolation. Steve found himself rubbing at his arms and looking for a body of water to get a better look at what had happened to him. Perhaps it was a sickness that had just reacted badly to his recent condition. He could only hope as much as he made his way through the trees, his muscles tensing and his body jerking away any time a branch brushed him or a sound from nearby caught his attention.

The sudden ease to which he found himself startled was as unsettling as the physical changes and he was doing his best to mentally talk himself out of it while he searched for either the path back into town or a body of water to get a better look at the changes and find out if it was somehow just in his head.]

I'm familiar with the area, it's not a big deal as long as you don't disturb the plants. [Nymphs get angry. People get attacked. It's... not a good thing.

But the next question gets her to pause.]
Oh, uh, I've been staying in an apartment with some others. Rena, Mahiru... [She lowers her head.] Yuki's here, too. I got here about four months ago and Yuki arrived about two.

[All the time Bucky'd spent as a bear had stuck with him, apparently. He might have been a demon now, but the desire to stay close to nature was still there. The trees were too close for him to fly much, but that was okay because he still wasn't very good in the air anyway. He'd progressed in leaps and bounds since he'd started out, and hadn't crashed into a single chimney since, but sometimes it was just easier to stay on the ground.

Even if, every now and then, his hooves became a little tangled in the undergrowth along the forest floor. It would probably be easier to burn everything away, but he didn't want to set the whole forest ablaze, so he carefully untangled himself, swearing under his breath in Russian. He pushed past some more bushes, rounded a tree-and froze.

Changes or not (and for a brief moment, he almost mistook Steve for Fitz, except Fitz was a snake now), Bucky recognized Steve. He sucked in a breath, forked tongue sweeping over his lips. He hadn't seen Steve since after the mountain, after Steve had-

But this was different. This wasn't right.]

They said to sleep in the dirt.

[... That explains a bit. Not much, but a bit.]

Flowers also say to make sure to eat lots of homhom meat and to have lots of water. But Riki still don't want to eat stranger Homhoms.

[Oh well, he's happy with hugging and being carried by his strong friend. He may fall asleep in a few moments, if he doesn't keep talking.]

[He actually debates it for a moment. Reyn is quiet for a while, seeing what kind of flesh-eating monster Shulk was now.

... It kind of reminded him of Fiora, after all. Their appearances were weird, but their hearts were still the same. He could see that, plain as day. As soon as it clicked for Reyn, he puts a hand on Shulk's shoulder and gives him a smile.]

I think I can tell if my best friend is real or not.

So what's a bird like you, doing in a spooky forest like this?

[No Reyn.]

[ He knows better than to assume it wasn't a big deal - but at least he knows better now. That's the more important thing. ]

It is not. This place is very different from my land.

[ Very different indeed. It seems more advanced, somehow? But the knowledge of magic was no longer common. ]

[ Leon is polite by nature, but that doesn't mean he can't be critical. ]

I see. I suppose the mystery only deepens.

[ He doesn't sound bitter, but it should be evident from his pinched expression that he isn't going to just take this as it is.

Kogitsunemaru's request is unexpected, and he's hesitant - for a good reason. He took great pains to acquire the sword, after all; but the other had just possibly saved his life, and debts had to be repaid. ]

You may.

[ He offers the handle out to the spirit, watchful in case - just in case the other decided to make off with it. ]

[That smug grin makes Christian fold his arms sulkily. Of course, it always comes back to the same problem. People want proof; they want to be shown the magic before they believe in it. And "proof" is malleable when it comes to magic. There's always a better explanation.

Not to mention Christian is new to this city. He doesn't know how things work here, so he can't readily pull up examples. The truth is in his thin-lipped expression and wandering gaze. He's looking for something to help him.]

Just because some of them are off doesn't mean they're all wrong. If there aren't really monsters, then why do so many people have these? This is a lot of effort to put into a practical joke.

[Okay, so he hasn't seen anything conclusive yet. But he's still new.]
stumbling: (arms crossed)

It would be better than this, that much is certain.

[And showing no signs of shifting. Too bad for him the hunter he's protecting is starting to get up again and doesn't look like he cares too much whether this monster is trying to help him or not.]

Yeah, you could say that. Except I don't exactly have a job to take a break from, kiddo. [Okay, he'll just. Shove that hand in his pocket, sure.]

Let's just call this "lunch".

[personal profile] buildingcastles 2015-11-18 12:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, you're both bears, so it's probably normal. And the go to pick up method for some gods, I hear.

[He was trying to make a joke there, but in a place where Christian doesn't know how everything works, maybe that isn't the best joke to make. He keeps rubbing the bear's ears, squeezing them because they are fuzzy and small. For a scary giant bear, he's pretty nonthreatening at the moment.]

Just so we're clear, I don't actually know those guys. I ran into them by accident. I can't help if they've got issues.

[He is smaller, so they probably thought he'd be an easy mark. Which only makes sense--he almost was.]

I guess I'd better walk you home then. Make sure you don't get stuck naked out here and cause a scene. You did kind of save my life.

[If America's heart had been able to beat before, this surely would have stopped it. He gawks, eyes wide as dinner plates, all of the cogs in his mind frantically turning to try and make sense of this.

George Washington? No, that can't be. He looks nothing like George, and (he hopes) George would've remembered him. But at the same time, this place has taught him that there are more Americas than the one he represents, and more timelines than he could possibly keep track of. And the way this man speaks, modest but confident, it rings true of the George Washington he knew and loved.]

That's-- You can't-- Are you? [His disbelief is still there, but it's beginning to give way to something else. Hope.] George Washington... You're really him?!

Don't tell me she arm-wrestled a giant for it.

[Part of him still thinks this whole place is too fantastic. In the best way, though. It's like he woke up in a weird semi-fantasy where magic was considered normal and there were villagers and possibly dragons.]

I, well, yeah. There's something out here, right? And no one else seems to know what it is. Maybe it'll help us.

[How's that first class survival instinct for you? He probably needs a guide if that's his logic.]
pastlanternlight: (New horizon)

[personal profile] pastlanternlight 2015-11-18 01:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, yeah. Doing stuff on your own here can be super risky, so oldies helping newbies helps us both, I figure.

[She would help regardless - she listened to the woes of her people back home, she could help out with something like this - but the two-way advantage is kind of a bonus.

She frowns a little at him when he interrupts his own question, in confusion more than annoyance.]

Whatever you were about to ask, dude, I bet I've heard weirder already.

Yeah, the gods in my world aren't really that bad, but the ones here suck eggs. Well, the Fog and Fourth do, at least. They're the ones causing all the mess.

Look, I can't help if some guys just don't like my face.

( The mountain was gone. Of course it just couldn't be that simple, what would be the point in that? But they'd worked difficult cases, and they'd be able to figure it out. She'd just save any more suggestions she had until she had more information - experiences from people that had been there longer, more that could only hopefully help.

When Connors asks her the question Bonnie lifts her head a little, and says nothing (for once) about the fact that that was a question. He's trying to help, she can ignore one stupid thing )

Well, there's a few reasons... [And he does not want to jump straight into "monsters eat people here," oh God. He averts his eyes for a few seconds as he tries to figure out how to go about this.]

... Hhhhow about... we take this one step at a time? Like, ah... Let's introduce ourselves! [A smile. It comes across as somewhat forced.] I'm Marco, and, ah, I'm a merman!

So everything that we had at home is worthless now?

( At least by the fact that they had to recertify their skills. Guess her incredible resume means nothing any more, and that's not a thought Bonnie will happily get used to. Though once she's settled some more she may have to come back to him for the details of that exam. Get in there quick before it all goes wrong.

His descriptions of the town - the businesses - have her thinking a little bit. Monsters always conjure up the worst mental image, yet there he is sat talking to her, and a lawyer, and it's as if none of this were true. As if he was just still human )

It sounds like a regular town if you don't think about the monsters. ( The monsters being them. Something she'd become - unwillingly ) It's not the sort of picture I first got.

[Speaking of things that aren't the clearest, it takes Marco some effort to understand 100% of what she just said. Too many puns. And "sweeps" would be... what? Some kind of measuring unit for time, if he had to guess based on context?

After a moment of silence, he nods.]
Yes! As I understand it.

... Though, well, it's... it's more about the Fog God than the place itself.
