As sharp as he can be for politics and tactics, he's people-dumb enough socially to be unsure of the instinct that something's off there.]

Fair enough - pardon my curiosity; I didn't mean to pry, it's just fascinating. No-one on my world has, to my knowledge, created a sentient being. [He and his siblings were definitely tampered with, but they weren't created from whole cloth; their Mother had found them as small children.] You will likely get used to much of this state as there is time to adjust.
