[This place is not Eorzea. That much is strikingly obvious. In all of Eorzea, Alphinaud has never seen buildings quite like these. The style is different, the overall environment is different, the people are different... Not a sign of a Lalafell or a Roegadyn or even another Elezen. The population seems to be entirely Hyur...
He had been in Coerthas, though. And unless his memory has been altered or lost in some way, he doesn't recall falling into the ocean, only to wash up on the shores of some strange land. In fact, from the safety and comfort of Lord Haurchefant's dwelling, there was no possible way that he could have. So how...? Even attempting to contact Tataru and the Warrior of Light via linkshell has proven impossible, as his linkpearl appears to be missing entirely. ... and his book, as well. For all he knows, his connection to the others and his link to Alisaie may very well be lying at the bottom of the sea.
His own overall appearance probably doesn't help matters. Suffice to say, white hair on a youth doesn't seem to be all that common a thing among these Hyur, and they clearly haven't seen an Elezen before. Perhaps his clothes are a bit strange, too. The welcome is hardly one of terror, however, unless they are simply so frightened that they're throwing things at him in an attempt to appease. The offers of food and board could be considered courtesy or kindness, but the subject of these leaflets leads him to believe that it's more a preemptive pacification attempt. Especially once he sees one rather bold title proclaiming the consumption of flesh.
But why would they be afraid of something like this? A brief scan through the other leaflets shows mention of turning into monsters of various types, none of which sound familiar in the slightest. Just what is going on here...? The more he looks around, though, the more he begins to notice non-"humans" that the Hyur seem to be avoiding. ... perhaps the mention of "changes" isn't too far-fetched at all.
Asking one of them may prove more useful than asking the Hyur, at least.]
