TEST DRIVE, MARCH ROUND

TEST DRIVE MEME
Welcome to Ryslig's test drive meme! If you're considering apping here, this is where you can try your characters out in the game's setting. A few things to note:

  • Lots of people have asked good questions on the FAQ, so do take a look.
  • You can only app ONE character per round so choose wisely.
  • The reserve date has been announced.
  • Test drive meme threads can be used for your roleplay sample!
  • NEW! Players with characters already in the game can earn up to a maximum of 3 coins by replying to potential character threads! You will need to have your normal 20 comment AC in the game. You cannot use this to go over the bonus 10 coins per month total, but you can use it if you are missing some threads to reach that coin total. Same rules as normal bonuses apply.

Sample scenarios:
SCENARIO ONE: So you've just arrived, fresh out of the hospital, and already the natives are trying to get on your good side. Offers of food, shelter and other luxuries in return for hoping you don't eat them. They even have some helpful pamphlets to share with you. "How To Deal With Changes", "Alternatives to Human Flesh", "What to Expect When You're Expecting (to turn into a monster)" are all great pamphlets. There's even some detailing certain monsters, and the changes they go through.

Among these however, are some... not so helpful ones. "Bunnyipyips And You", "Axe Thief Axehounds," and "So you're becoming a Fur Bearing Trout" among others.

SCENARIO TWO: You've become hopelessly lost in Lager Woods. Paths don't seem to lead where you remember them leading, and you feel as if you're going around in circles. Childlike giggling can be heard from no direction in particular. Suddenly, you stumble upon another character, who seems to be just as lost as you! Perhaps you can find a way out together.

SCENARIO THREE: You've heard about the fog, but you've never seen it before. Now, the mist surrounds you. Barely able to see before you, you need to get home - and fast. It's far too dangerous in this situation.

SCENARIO FOUR: The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? NOTE: Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.

Two!

[When May turned to investigate the noise behind her there was no one there (this time) for her to spot. Further searching into the underbrush did not reveal a hidden figure either. There simply was no one there to find.

However, when it looked like she was finished trying to find the source of the mysterious noise that may or may not have sounded from that direction, a wry voice spoke up from behind and above her.]

Looking for ghostly apparitions?

[The question was given in a teasing tone but it held some merit. The giggling seemed to be coming from nowhere and no one in particular at this point. So it was like looking for ghosts.

The voice belonged to a man crouched in a tree-limb. He wore all-black, slightly medieval looking in design, self-stitched and all, and which included a hood over his head and a mask that covered the bottom half of his face. Despite his odd position in a tree the man looked rather relaxed and comfortable in his stance. His mix-matched eyes looked over her carefully as he waited for her response to his sudden appearance.

To be frank, Garrett was not usually the type to stop and talk to random passerby. But to be fair, he was also lost in this forest and the woman was the first person he had come across in all the time he had spent wandering around trying to get out (despite the odd giggle here and there that indicated otherwise). For once in his life, maybe socialization might be in order to solve this enigma and escape. He did not have to like it but it was better than ignoring the one thing that had finally changed in all his wandering.]

[She turns swiftly, but there's nothing wild about the motion. She's surprised, naturally - but she was already primed for the unexpected, and there's nothing wasted about the way she moves.

She regards the man with cool analysis. Up on the branch he's got superior vantage, but she has more freedom of immediate movement. He may be carrying weapons...but she's confident she can take one if she needs it.]

Looking for a way out of this ode to Grimm's fairy tales. Don't suppose you have a vantage point to see how far outspread the forest is from where you are?

[Make yourself useful, stranger.]

[He watched her studiously, faintly impressed with her ease of movement though it did not show. She was worth keeping a keen eye on and well out of arm's reach with skill like that. Even if Garrett did have a few of his own tricks up his sleeve.

The blackhand's eyebrows rose slightly. To what? But he did not ask the question out loud. The unknown reference was not important.

Instead, Garrett glanced up the length of the tree he was perched upon and then back down. It would be an easy enough climb for someone like him.]

Hold on.

[Quickly, deftly, the blackhand climbed further up the tree, hardly pausing between perches to find the next hand and foothold. He was an expert at this. He rapidly disappeared from sight.

A few moments later and then the man returned as swiftly as he had risen. And as silently. He remained perched in the tree for now. Just in case.]

View says the city is that way. [He indicated with a tilt of his head.] But I wouldn't trust the obvious route right about now.

[As for her actual question... well. He did not give any indication that he wanted to broach that subject just yet.]

[May isn't prepared to discount anyone she meets here as not being a threat. It doesn't matter how benign they look - and admittedly, Garrett doesn't look the least bit benign - and in a way, she's relieved that he seems to be assessing her as a threat as much as she's assessing him.

It's so much easier when one knows what one's dealing with, when it comes to that kind of possibility. How dangerous? That has yet to be determined, and whether it's necessary for alliance or enmity.]

And the city is what, exactly? Good? Bad? Worth heading toward? Worth avoiding?

[Just because she asks the questions doesn't mean she'll believe his answers, but the questions are worth asking, and the answers, whether lies of truth, will provide her with information regardless.]

[Garrett considered his answer for a moment.]

Worth heading toward if you don't like the sound of phantom children and twisting paths that play tricks on the mind. Or if you just prefer more shelter than the trees provide.

[He paused and made a point of examining her again, head to toe.]

Then again, maybe you feel comfortable in a place like this.

I'm uncertain as to the safety of the city. It may even be worse than this forest.

[At his remark, her brow lifts.]

You're not exactly dressed for a tea party yourself.

I've dropped in on one or two before.

[Although for some reason he was never invited to those sorts of affairs...]

The city is a city. [There was an audible shrug in his voice though not in his shoulders.] It has its ups and downs like any other.
