Welcome to Ryslig's test drive meme! If you're considering apping here, this is where you can try your characters out in the game's setting. A few things to note:
Lots of people have asked good questions on the FAQ, so do take a look.
You can only app ONE character per round so choose wisely.
Test drive meme threads can be used for your roleplay sample!
NEW! Players with characters already in the game can earn up to a maximum of 3 coins by replying to potential character threads! You will need to have your normal 20 comment AC in the game. You cannot use this to go over the bonus 10 coins per month total, but you can use it if you are missing some threads to reach that coin total. Same rules as normal bonuses apply.
Sample scenarios:
SCENARIO ONE: So you've just arrived, fresh out of the hospital, and already the natives are trying to get on your good side. Offers of food, shelter and other luxuries in return for hoping you don't eat them. They even have some helpful pamphlets to share with you. "How To Deal With Changes", "Alternatives to Human Flesh", "What to Expect When You're Expecting (to turn into a monster)" are all great pamphlets. There's even some detailing certain monsters, and the changes they go through.
Among these however, are some... not so helpful ones. "Bunnyipyips And You", "Axe Thief Axehounds," and "So you're becoming a Fur Bearing Trout" among others.
SCENARIO TWO: You've become hopelessly lost in Lager Woods. Paths don't seem to lead where you remember them leading, and you feel as if you're going around in circles. Childlike giggling can be heard from no direction in particular. Suddenly, you stumble upon another character, who seems to be just as lost as you! Perhaps you can find a way out together.
SCENARIO THREE: You've heard about the fog, but you've never seen it before. Now, the mist surrounds you. Barely able to see before you, you need to get home - and fast. It's far too dangerous in this situation.
SCENARIO FOUR: The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? NOTE: Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.
[ It had taken too long to get away from all the natives, mostly because she kept stopping to accept the things they offered. She didn't like just dismissing people, after all, or walking away when they spoke to her. It seemed so rude, especially when they were all treating her so nicely. But she couldn't stay there forever, so she had to assure them that she didn't need a place to stay, and that she was a-okay, she would find her way home just fine...
The one thing she kept accepting the whole way, though, were the pamphlets, and the mass of paper in Mabel's arms when she finally gets a ways away from the hospital is a little ridiculous. She's pretty sure she has one or two of every one they were offering, and honestly, she has no idea what to do with them all. They would make fun, Halloween-esque scrapbooking material, if she were back home, but she's not. She has no real idea where she is, and worse than that? She's alone. There are people milling around, sure, but her brother isn't there, and neither is Grunkle Stan or anyone else she knows, and it's a little frightening, not having that safety net of familiarity.
She refuses to dwell on it, and as she walks, she turns her attention instead to some of the pamphlets she has. It's a little hard to look at them when she has so many, so she ends up leaving a pamphlet trail behind her, but she doesn't seem to notice.
Eventually she stops to squint down at one of the stranger pamphlets. ]
...I'm becoming a fur bearing what now? [ That doesn't even sound like a real thing! ]
Scenario two:
Uhhh...
[ Mabel's one to remain pretty optimistic in most situations, and she prides herself on that fact. But even she has her limits. She's been wandering around in the woods for hours, with no idea where she's going, and every time a path seems familiar and she follows it, she just ends up feeling like she went in a circle or wandered further into the woods. Which isn't exactly comforting. She's cold and hungry, and wants to get back to relative safety.
Especially with the weird, disembodied giggling coming from somewhere. ]
Hey, is anyone out there? [ She picks a direction, rushes forward, and slams into someone before she even realizes they're there. ]
[That giggling? It's all Marie can do not to scream. She's tried to stay calm, even tried marking her path just to make sure she's not going in circles, but it feels like it's doing nothing.
So when something runs into her? She has to hold her hand over her mouth to keep from shrieking.
But it's... A little girl. Who looks human. But she knows how little that can mean.]
You... Are you somethin' that's gonna try an' eat me?
[Not that she expects an honest answer, but the question comes anyway.]
Eat you? No! I'm--not a monster or anything. [ Yet. She's not a monster or anything yet. But That's not something she really wants to think about too much, right now. All those pamphlets had been weird enough.
Mabel looks around a little uncertainly, to see if there's anything creepy in the trees, or some landmark she recognizes. ]
[That makes Marie at least try to smile. Because, well, this is just a kid. A lost, scared kid. And she's not much different.]
Me, too. So... what'd ya say? We... stick t'gether? Might be safer not t' be alone 'round here.
[Better to have someone else close, far as she sees. Besides, maybe they can help each other to get out of this place, find out where they're supposed to be going.]
[ Mabel smiles back. She had been about to suggest the same thing, because really, after finding someone else? She doesn't really want to go back to wandering around all alone. ]
I say that's a pretty good idea. Weird giggling won't seem as creepy with someone else around.
[ And having someone to talk to will just lighten the mood in general. ]
[It'd been only a matter of time before the hunger really set in. Dipper's been able to ignore it when it showed up in spurts every now and then, but recently it's turned constant, a never-ending gnawing in his stomach that can't be sated by normal food. And god, he's known this was coming. How could he not, with how many warnings (both verbal and...incidental) he's received since arriving here? But he hasn't gotten a chance to talk to anyone about it, what with recent happenings, so now he's alone in the woods trying to stay as far away from people as possible. (If only he realized how well this worked for Ginko.)
Being in the woods isn't so bad; he's able to navigate it quite easily thanks to his weird minotaur senses, which also seem to let him know if people are nearby. The whispering kind of throws that off, though. It's impossible to tell what direction it's coming from, so it makes his awareness go kind of fuzzy. That probably explains why he doesn't pinpoint Mabel's voice instantly, and how she's able to bump into him without him realizing. He jumps a mile, his heart racing as he turns around.]
M-Mabel!?
[This is the absolute worst time for him to bump into somebody, not only because he's trying not to eat people but because it's Mabel, who has no idea what he's gone through in these last two months, who still looks human and smells like the ocean (wow, Xion was right about that, it's a strong scent on the newbies). His surprise seems to have snapped him out of his hunger for the time being, but he's still got other monster problems. He flails his arms briefly as he tries to cover his horns (too big and too curved to completely fit behind his arms), and as long as she doesn't look down, maybe she won't notice his hooves.]
[ For the first time since she arrived, a weight feels like it's lifted off her shoulders. Being separated from her brother, from her family, had been a lot harder than she would like to admit, a feeling that's quadrupled by the unfamiliarity of her surroundings. But he's here! Which means they can get to the bottom of this mystery together, somehow, and figure out just what it is that's going on. It'll be like it's supposed to, the two of them working together to solve the problem at hand. (Even though Dipper's the one that tends to focus more than Mabel, he's the one who's best at solving the supernatural problems they face. )
But they could worry about all that later, because there are a few things she needs to address first. Mainly, she needs to figure out if Dipper knows more than she does. Usually, she just leaves it all up to him and has fun along the way. But somehow, that doesn't really seem appropriate right now. Somehow...this feels more serious than anything they've faced before. More serious than Bill, more serious than Gideon. ]
Where are--[ It's then that her relief gives way to confusion, as Dippers panicked actions finally register. He's never this nervous around her unless he's hiding something, or worried about something he's not telling her. So what's wrong? Is he hurt...? Worried, she looks him over quickly, half expecting to find an injury of some kind.
What she doesn't expect is hooves and what looks like...horns? It's a little hard to tell, with his arms covering most of them, but... ]
Are you wearing a costume? [ She knows people are supposed to turn into monsters, she read the pamphlets (Even the ones that were clearly bogus. ) But knowing and seeing are two different things. Especially when the one that's changed is her twin brother. ]
[He glances up towards his arms, frozen above his head and not even remotely doing their job of covering his horns, before just letting them drop to his sides and sighing. There's no point in trying to hide it, and he may as well take this opportunity to find out how much she's already been filled in on with regards to this place.]
No, it's not a costume. And please don't touch them-- [referring to his horns, because he knows she'll try] --'cause they're still kinda painful.
[ She looks a little confused for a few seconds, before the realization dawns. Oh. Oh, geez. She remembers all those dumb pamphlets she'd been looking at before, and thinks she should have probably paid more attention to them. Like, a lot more attention, considering she just kind of laughed them all off.
She sighs. ]
Okay, so, you're...turning into a monster! That's--Yeah. [ She fiddles with the stitching on one of her sleeves. Yeesh, how is she supposed to put a positive spin on this one. ] But hey, that's no reason to look all---blerg. We just need to find a way to fix it, like back home!
[ They've been through plenty of weird and crazy situations before. She sees no reason For this one to be any different. ]
[Well, someone else is there, that's for sure, other than the source of that strange giggling noise. Somehow it doesn't make Jon feel any better, and his fingers curl tightly around the hilt of his sword. He's lost, alone, and there's a hunger beginning to gnaw at him, but he won't give in. He won't.
He turns, just in time for Mabel to slam straight into him, and he stumbles back a little, his grip on his sword loosening once he sees her. A girl, younger than him, just a little bit older than Arya would be by now, oh, gods--]
You shouldn't be here. Not at this time. [And definitely nowhere near him right now, seeing as he can smell the blood in her veins and it smells really good.]
[ Mabel doesn't recognize him, and while she should probably be a little more cautious around strangers, given the situation, she can't help but be really glad she ran into someone. Wandering around really creepy woods alone? Yeah, not exactly the greatest thing. ]
Yeaaah, I know. But I can't seem to find my way back, this place is a maze, and not the fun kind.
[He's fairly certain there's no fun kind of labyrinths, honestly.]
You and me both, it seems. [What a ranger he's turning out to be--he's lost in the woods, with nothing and no one for company but a little girl, and on top of that trying to ignore the gnawing hunger and bloodlust. Some man of the Night's Watch he is now (if he even is still one).
The giggling starts up again, and he freezes, glancing at where he's sure it's coming from. There's nothing there to betray the presence of anything, though, not even the rustling of bushes.] Did you hear that? [Of course she did, it was loud, and he has to remind himself that he is a man grown and a sworn brother of the Night's Watch (and also a monster as well, much as he tries to hide it behind the gloves), not a green boy, to be frightened by something giggling in the woods.
[ When the giggling starts up again, Mabel moves just a little closer to him. She's been around weird enough to know that whatever's out there...probably isn't good news. It's probably closer to horror movie territory than anything, actually. ]
Yeah, I heard it. [ Though, she kind of wishes she hadn't. Or that she could actually see whatever it was. ] Do you know if there's anything...out there?
I wouldn't worry too much about those if I were you. [...says some guy with white hair, horns, and a tail, who had just been passing by until he caught onto this girl being another newcomer. Ginko doesn't like how many kids have been washing up here - he's not sure it's actually any more per group than there used to be, but that doesn't make it any less disturbing.
He does a bit of a double-take upon seeing Mabel's face - she looks kind of familiar. But for now he's a little more concerned with finding out how much of the locals' nonsense she's already had thrown at her.] I'm pretty sure the people making those pamphlets mean well, but the details aren't too accurate.
[ Normal people would probably find the horns, white hair, and tail combo a little freaky, but Mabel has seen so much weird while in gravity falls, that it doesn't even phase her any more. She looks up at the horns curiously, sure, but not with any actual worry or concern. This guy seems alright! He's not giving off serial killer vibes, so...he's probably just some magical creature? Dipper would probably know for sure, given how often his face is shoved in journal 3, but...
That's assuming this place is anything like back home. ]
Oh, good. [ She breathes a sigh of relief. She hadn't actually believed she would turn into a trout. She doesn't really think she's going to turn into anything! But it's still good to know. ] Because I do not want to be a trout. They're so...fishy.
No worries about that. ...Mostly. I don't think there have been any reports of trout in particular, though. [He assumes she's probably caught onto the 'people turning into things' part being real by now.]
Well that's good to know. [ Because being a trout would be pretty inconvenient for a lot of reasons. Also, they're not really all that cute? ] Wait wait, back up. Does that mean people actually--[ She actually looks at his horns this time, realizing for the first time that they might not actually be a thing he's always had. ] Oh.
[...or not. Or she hadn't believed it, anyway, which was understandable.] Yeah. [His tails flicks around his ankles, and he carefully nudges it aside with one leg. He will never understand how that thing always gets underfoot like this.]
Sorry, but... it's happened to everyone who's washed up here. Different changes for different people, and there's some variance in when they take effect and how quickly, but it always happens.
[The Fur Bearing Trout got its share of attention at the shop but never had Stan predicted his customers curiosity could evolve into this. Leave it to these people to spin an attraction into an actual monster, or at least believe there to be. Looming behind his niece, Stanford Pines lets out a gravely laugh and reaches for the pamphlet in her hands.]
What? They actually bought that? This I gotta see.
[Had Mabel been expecting a monster she would be greatly disappointed. Apart from longer, untrimmed nails and a paler tone, her uncle looks human. Although, why any man but Corey Hart would see it fit to wear sun glasses at night was a bit suspicious; Stan's eyes concealed behind a pair of shades for unknown reason.
He reads over the pamphlet, chuckling to himself at the overactive imaginations of the townsfolk, his monstrous fangs exposed.] I bet they think they'll explode too. You got anything on jackalopes?
[ Mabel hadn't really expected to find Grunkle Stan or Dipper. For one thing, this seems pretty far from Gravity Falls. She hasn't even heard of this town before. But it's a relief as well as a surprise, when she hears him behind her. She lets him take the pamphlet as she spins on her heel to face him.
She eyes his nails a little, but shrugs it off. Yeesh, he really let himself go. How long has he been here? ] Uhh--well, let's see! Bunnyipyips...Axhounds...[ She starts shuffling through the papers, dropping about half of them in the process. ]
Nope! I don't see anything about Jackalopes. These guys must like making up their own fake monsters, huh? How creative!
