TEST DRIVE

Welcome to Ryslig's test drive meme! If you're considering apping here, this is where you can try your characters out in the game's setting. A few things to note:

You can only app ONE character per round so choose wisely.

Test drive meme threads can be used for your roleplay sample!
Players with characters already in the game can earn up to a maximum of 6 coins by replying to potential character threads! You cannot use this to go over the bonus 20 coins per month total, but you can use it to reach that coin total. Same rules as normal bonuses apply.

Sample scenarios:

SCENARIO ONE: So you've just arrived, fresh out of the hospital, and already the natives are trying to get on your good side. Offers of food, shelter and other luxuries in return for hoping you don't eat them. They even have some helpful pamphlets to share with you. "How To Deal With Changes", "Alternatives to Human Flesh", "What to Expect When You're Expecting (to turn into a monster)" are all great pamphlets. There's even some detailing certain monsters, and the changes they go through. Some of these seem to have been passed down from one monster to the next.

Among these however, are some... not so helpful ones. "Bunnyipyips And You", "Axe Thief Axehounds," and "So you're becoming a Fur Bearing Trout" among others. Sometimes they have marks on them from previous people who had them saying they are lies, or pointing out good "jokes."

SCENARIO TWO: You've become hopelessly lost in Lager Woods. Paths don't seem to lead where you remember them leading, and you feel as if you're going around in circles. Childlike giggling can be heard from no direction in particular. Suddenly, you stumble upon another character, who seems to be just as lost as you! Perhaps you can find a way out together. Or maybe they want you for lunch...

SCENARIO THREE: The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? NOTE: Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.

SCENARIO FOUR:The claws, the fangs, the pangs of hunger - horrible as they all are, it's manageable given enough time and perseverance. Local monster hunters, though, not so much.

Maybe it started with a few wayward glances on the outskirts of town, critical stares and disapproving whispers, or just the misfortune of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Whatever it was, deserved or entirely unprovoked, you're being hunted: a handful of aggressive, well-armed humans doggedly chase your trail throughout city streets and out into the open, and if you're not careful (if you don't find help soon) you might wind up as the next trophy kill claim on one of those hunter's walls.

It's an introductory pamphlet. It's not really that useful, it's mostly just stuff the humans are guessing about monsters.

[Rather than human footsteps, there's a scraping at the floor like wood contacting wood, and a smell that's somewhere between flowery and charred, like the person's been close to fire a little more frequently than most. The wooden sound stops in front of him, a little to the left.]

You're new, right? I mean, you can read the thing if you want, but it's better to get the story from the actual monsters here.

[She doesn't seem to have registered his blindness quite yet.]

[his brow furrows a little bit, trying to place the sounds. it doesn't make any sense to him, and his senses aren't sharp enough to even begin trying to parse out all of the stimuli he's getting there. the wood he can hear, the smell comes across vaguely - like if someone were wearing heavy perfume, but nothing more. at least he can kind of guess where she's standing, and he turns his attention vaguely that directionish.

not that her words are any less confusing than the rest of...well, all of that. new here? where was here and why did this sound so routine? the monster bit, at least, is a little easier to swallow. even if toomes used mechanical wings, matt could tell from the way people reacted to him that no one thought of him as human anymore.]

I'm not going to turn down an offer for better information if you're offering.

[Flame Princess shrugs, and there's a sound of rustling like leaves or flowers.] It's kind of a routine thing here, so it's best to learn what happens pretty quickly, because some of the actual people here aren't that interested in helping us.

Basically, a bunch of people from other worlds show up here every couple of months - you're not the only new person here right now. And then after a few weeks, you're gonna start turning into a monster.

[The words are toned carefully - like she's testing the waters before getting into anything worse, and making sure he's not going to react too badly to the monster part. Thoughout it, there's soft sounds of moving plants and creepers coming from her direction. At least it won't be too hard to tell if she moves.]

[truthfully, he's grateful for her explanation. it's straight forward, hits the highlights. he doesn't like the uncomfortable position of not having all the information he needs to succeed, but he can recognize help when he sees it and is able to take it graciously. he nods along as she speaks, indicating his understand. he doesn't react badly to her words - it's the plant sounds that are the strangest.]

Is that what you are? A "monster"? [he says it like he's not trying to be rude, but she had started out this whole thing by talking about getting the story from "actual monsters here," so it seems like a safe enough thing to refer to her as. he's pretty clear on the concept that that's what she must be.]

[She nods, and there's another rustle of plants.] I'm one of the monsters you might turn into while you're here, a nymph. That basically means you get plants all over you. There's a bunch of kinds of monsters - ones like snakes, ones like dogs, ones kinda like dragons that can't go out in sun...but you don't know what you're gonna be until you start changing.

Also there's some other stuff that happens when you start changing. Worse stuff. I don't want to upset you or anything, but it's probably better to hear it first thing.

[She wants to make sure he's following before she dives straight into the whole bit about having to eat people after a certain point.]

Is there any kind of correlation between what people become and other elements? Or is it impossible to predict? [even correlation, really, could be meaningless. correlation is not causation after all.]

More bad news? Might as well get it all over with now.

I don't think so. I mean, I was made of fire before I came here, and I got turned into a plant weak to fire. I've seen others who've turned into stuff that's pretty consistent with them, too. [She shrugs.] I think there's people looking into it, anyway.

[Time for the worse news, then. Her expression hardens a little, and there's a lengthy pause before she speaks again.]

There's...another thing about being a monster. It doesn't happen right away, but after you've changed enough, you start getting hungry. For humans.

[There's a slight wincing in her tone, but hey, it's out there now.]
