TEST DRIVE: NOVMEMEBER (get it because it's a meme)

TEST DRIVE
Welcome to Ryslig's test drive meme! If you're considering apping here, this is where you can try your characters out in the game's setting. A few things to note:

  • You can only app ONE character per round so choose wisely.
  • We now have a Quick Game Facts that simplifies the basic information about the game. Good if you want to see what the game is at a glance!
  • Ryslig's FAQ is located here, so please take a look if you have questions.
  • The reserve date is 11/27.
  • Test drive meme threads can be used for your roleplay sample!
  • Players with characters already in the game can earn up to a maximum of 6 coins by replying to potential character threads! You cannot use this to go over the bonus 20 coins per month total, but you can use it to reach that coin total. Same rules as normal bonuses apply.

Sample scenarios:
SCENARIO ONE: So you've just arrived, fresh out of the hospital, and already the natives are trying to get on your good side. Offers of food, shelter and other luxuries in return for hoping you don't eat them. They even have some helpful pamphlets to share with you. "How To Deal With Changes", "Alternatives to Human Flesh", "What to Expect When You're Expecting (to turn into a monster)" are all great pamphlets. There's even some detailing certain monsters, and the changes they go through. Some of these seem to have been passed down from one monster to the next.

Among these however, are some... not so helpful ones. "Bunnyipyips And You", "Axe Thief Axehounds," and "So you're becoming a Fur Bearing Trout" among others. Sometimes they have marks on them from previous people who had them saying they are lies, or pointing out good "jokes."

SCENARIO TWO: You've become hopelessly lost in Lager Woods. Paths don't seem to lead where you remember them leading, and you feel as if you're going around in circles. Childlike giggling can be heard from no direction in particular. Suddenly, you stumble upon another character, who seems to be just as lost as you! Perhaps you can find a way out together. Or maybe they want you for lunch...

SCENARIO THREE: The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? NOTE: Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.

SCENARIO FOUR:The claws, the fangs, the pangs of hunger - horrible as they all are, it's manageable given enough time and perseverance. Local monster hunters, though, not so much.

Maybe it started with a few wayward glances on the outskirts of town, critical stares and disapproving whispers, or just the misfortune of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Whatever it was, deserved or entirely unprovoked, you're being hunted: a handful of aggressive, well-armed humans doggedly chase your trail throughout city streets and out into the open, and if you're not careful (if you don't find help soon) you might wind up as the next trophy kill claim on one of those hunter's walls.

[Maybe a couple of days ago, Chris would have laughed along with him on this one. Chuckled at the ridiculousness of it all. How it looked like those crazy pamphlets you get whenever you visit a woods or come across a quote-unquote 'mystery spot'. Usually some drivel about bigfoot sightings or UFO landings. Crazy-person stuff.

He's a little less cynical than he was a couple of days ago. There might be a touch of truth in them, and he really, really hates that. Still, he can play along. After all, just because some weird stuff actually exists doesn't mean it all does, right? Right?

God, he hopes it doesn't.
]

Did you read the one about the twenty foot albino pig? Who writes this stuff?

Oh, I think I had a glimpse of that. Ah, here it is. [He finds the one in question among the small pile of pamphlets he's been slowly collecting the past hour. He lets out a short laugh.]

Honestly, I think it's just someone who has quite a lot of time on their hands. People tend to indulge in their silly little fantasies every once in a while, you know?
wayleadsontoway: (Remember it once in a while)

[Chris stifles a snort at the sight of the dumb pig thing again. God, it's so fucking dumb. ]

So people can actually be bored here? What with the suddenly being stuck fuck-knows-where and apparently turning into monsters? That doesn't sound like boring to me.

[Monsters and the chances of becoming them are the least boring things in the universe to him. He's still trying to come to terms with the idea...but at least he's had a head start with it all. He just never thought he'd be turning into one of them. ]
headlining: (got a nice ring to it)

You'd be surprised. The world could be ending, and I'd bet there would be one person out there who would say it wasn't exciting enough. You can't please everyone.

[He grins widely. In all honesty, Keats is...probably talking about himself. One could have a pink elephant walk in doing ballet on a trip wire, and he'd be thoroughly unimpressed.]

Also, people do like to indulge in all sorts of hyperboles. Regular monsters aren't just scary enough. They have to be, I don't know, twelve feet tall and shoot lasers out of their fingers. If it's just a regular werewolf or harpy or whatever, nobody is going to care about that.

[Chris almost says he knows exactly that sort of person, but doesn't. But if anyone was going to complain the apocalypse wasn't exciting enough, it would be Josh Washington. ]

Yeah, trust me, regular monsters are plenty scary enough for me. They're actually more than enough for me. I would be happy with much less monsters.

[personal profile] headlining 2015-11-17 01:33 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, come now, where's your sense of adventure? When you get down to it, monsters aren't really that scary.

[Keats, you have beaten up tons of monsters with your bare hands, YOU SHOULDN'T TALK]

The one's I've seen so far in this place look like regular people dressed in costumes. I hardly see what's so frightening about them.
wayleadsontoway: (Prayed for your happiness)

[personal profile] wayleadsontoway 2015-11-17 01:51 am (UTC)(link)
[Chris laughs, but it's not a hah-hah-that's-funny laugh. It's more of a hah-hah-this-conversation-is-a-mine-field laugh. ]

Trust me, monsters are really scary. More so than I actually thought they would be. I mean, not that I ever thought there were monsters for real because I'm a sane person but-

[But then he found out the truth and he really, really wishes he could unlearn that.]

Yeah. When you're on the menu? Monsters are fucking terrifying.

[For a moment, it seems as if Keats is going to reply with some new bit of snark, but after a few seconds he rethinks it, his casual manner shifting to something more serious. He's a reporter, and he knows a hook when he hears one.]

...You sound like you're speaking from experience.
wayleadsontoway: (Oh what a pair me and you)

[personal profile] wayleadsontoway 2015-11-17 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Experience of what? Monsters?

[He makes a 'pfft' sound, waving a hand. No. No.

...Yeah.
]

That sounds pretty crazy, don'tcha think? Actual monsters?
headlining: (doin' something mean to it)

[personal profile] headlining 2015-11-19 04:27 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, of course they sound crazy. Positively absurd.

[Keats' abnormally shiny glasses do make it quite hard to read his expression.]

But I wonder why you seem so certain they're terrifying, "more so than I'd though they'd be".
wayleadsontoway: (See them through)

[personal profile] wayleadsontoway 2015-11-19 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
[...

Well. Shit.
]

You know. Like...in movies and stuff? My best- [his voice falters, for a second, unsure if it's a true title any more, but says it anyway, he feels it at least ] my best friend loves scary movies. We watch 'em all the time. His dad makes 'em, so you see the effects and stuff. Pretty cool.

[Chris that was a TERRIBLE bluff. ]
headlining: (21st century schizoid man)

[personal profile] headlining 2015-11-20 05:42 pm (UTC)(link)
[There's a very long pause. Keats just stares at him, as if he can somehow just see into Chris' head and see the truth laid bare.]

Hm...I see.

[And that is all he says. Oh, Keats knows exactly what he's doing. Honestly, he could press further, but there's a certain advantage to this, he knows that. He casually digs his hands into his pockets, his tone a little too amused to be comfortable.]

...Well, even though you're hesitant now, I'm sure you'll be used to this place in no time, if you're so familiar with monsters.
wayleadsontoway: (If you forget how to smile)

[personal profile] wayleadsontoway 2015-11-20 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
[That look is more than a little unnerving, and Chris clears his throat nervously. Okay, man, okay. He doesn't know anything. He's just trying to wig you out.

...Right?
]

I don't know. Pretty sure anyone who can get used to this place quickly is kinda [he puts his index finger to his head and spins it in the universal 'crazy as a bag of crackmonkeys' signal, he emphasises it with a whistle] y'know?
headlining: (wow my keywords are dumb)

[personal profile] headlining 2015-11-22 07:51 pm (UTC)(link)
[He is obviously not trying to wig you out in order to get you to blurt all your secrets, GOSH, CHRIS. :)]

[He grins.]

That's true. I'd be more concerned about a person who wholeheartedly believes in all of this than one who doesn't.
wayleadsontoway: (If you forget how to smile)

THEIR NAMES ARE RIGHT NEXT TO EACH OTHER ON JUGGLR OKAY

[personal profile] wayleadsontoway 2015-11-23 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
[Obviously.]

Yeah! Because...well, it's not normal right? Believing in monsters? That's something a little kid believes in.
