TEST DRIVE: NOVMEMEBER (get it because it's a meme)

TEST DRIVE
Welcome to Ryslig's test drive meme! If you're considering apping here, this is where you can try your characters out in the game's setting. A few things to note:

  • You can only app ONE character per round so choose wisely.
  • We now have a Quick Game Facts that simplifies the basic information about the game. Good if you want to see what the game is at a glance!
  • Ryslig's FAQ is located here, so please take a look if you have questions.
  • The reserve date is 11/27.
  • Test drive meme threads can be used for your roleplay sample!
  • Players with characters already in the game can earn up to a maximum of 6 coins by replying to potential character threads! You cannot use this to go over the bonus 20 coins per month total, but you can use it to reach that coin total. Same rules as normal bonuses apply.

Sample scenarios:
SCENARIO ONE: So you've just arrived, fresh out of the hospital, and already the natives are trying to get on your good side. Offers of food, shelter and other luxuries in return for hoping you don't eat them. They even have some helpful pamphlets to share with you. "How To Deal With Changes", "Alternatives to Human Flesh", "What to Expect When You're Expecting (to turn into a monster)" are all great pamphlets. There's even some detailing certain monsters, and the changes they go through. Some of these seem to have been passed down from one monster to the next.

Among these however, are some... not so helpful ones. "Bunnyipyips And You", "Axe Thief Axehounds," and "So you're becoming a Fur Bearing Trout" among others. Sometimes they have marks on them from previous people who had them saying they are lies, or pointing out good "jokes."

SCENARIO TWO: You've become hopelessly lost in Lager Woods. Paths don't seem to lead where you remember them leading, and you feel as if you're going around in circles. Childlike giggling can be heard from no direction in particular. Suddenly, you stumble upon another character, who seems to be just as lost as you! Perhaps you can find a way out together. Or maybe they want you for lunch...

SCENARIO THREE: The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? NOTE: Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.

SCENARIO FOUR:The claws, the fangs, the pangs of hunger - horrible as they all are, it's manageable given enough time and perseverance. Local monster hunters, though, not so much.

Maybe it started with a few wayward glances on the outskirts of town, critical stares and disapproving whispers, or just the misfortune of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Whatever it was, deserved or entirely unprovoked, you're being hunted: a handful of aggressive, well-armed humans doggedly chase your trail throughout city streets and out into the open, and if you're not careful (if you don't find help soon) you might wind up as the next trophy kill claim on one of those hunter's walls.

Ares | Vagrant Soldier Ares

[personal profile] whatsforbreakfast 2015-11-14 07:41 am (UTC)(link)
SCENARIO 1-

[Unsurprisingly enough, Ares immediately fails to stay out of trouble when he arrives. He spends some time at first dodging staff inside the hospital, searching for the things he knows he had on him just a minute ago-- he'd just dozed off on the wagon ride back, hadn't he, so where did it go? Attempts to explain none of his stuff is here go in one ear and out the other. If it were here then he wouldn't be looking for it, that's a stupid answer. There's no way it just... vanished.

But eventually he has to give up. It's gotta be somewhere, it's just not in this particular place.

Anyone on their way out might find themselves nudged aside (or he might decide to just go over them instead if there's not enough room) in his hurry to leave-- the staff's not exactly happy with him at the moment, go figure-- and while he's not stopping there, he can definitely be seen around outside.]

option a-
[The offers of food are a welcome thing, at least, and he's casually munching on a couple snacks he's picked up while he skims one of those weird pamphlets. His attention seems pretty focused on it, but he manages to weave his way through the others milling around without any difficulty until he finds someone who seems like they might know what they're talking about.]

Hey- [He finally bothers to look up, his eye fixed curiously on them.] Can you tell me who's in charge here? I just need to ask them a few questions!

option b-
[Alternately: here's the little shit who might have almost knocked you over earlier. What kind of guy seriously just hops over people like they're a track hurdle?

(Dumb shonen teenagers, that's who. Here it is, the 'come bug him' prompt for yelling at him or just wildcarding something under scenario one.)]

SCENARIO 3 (or close enough)-

[New instinct only goes so far when your body's changed enough to be unfamiliar, but he's been slowly getting used to it. It's difficult to work with clawed, padded hands at first, the leathery wings with their feathered tips throw him off balance (and so does the scorpion-like tail), but fortunately Ares is hardly a stranger to training. He's well aware he needs to get familiar with all of this as fast as possible; for the moment, though, it's break time at the closest cheap restaurant he could find.

He's practically ravenous, but despite that he isn't managing to do much more than pick at his food-- he's staring out the window, tearing his attention away and back down to his plate every so often, but it just keeps drifting again.

There's a bird out there, always in his peripheral vision when he turns away from the window, and god he wants to go get it-- but he's not going to. It's a stupid bird, he's not gonna eat that when he has better food right here. He's not gonna do it.

He really, really wants to go eat that damn bird.

Ares' large caracal ears swivel and lie back, tail beginning to twitch and lash behind him. It's taunting him through that window just by existing, and if it happens to be a strange-looking bird (possibly one that's just bird-shaped at the moment, even)... well, he doesn't really care, nor does he notice the low growl coming from him intermittently. What matters is that it's out there.

You might want to watch that lashing, barbed tail, because he sure isn't, and this is not a large place.]

[You know who's sort of a bird? Yue is. Only he's not the one getting glared at, he's the one awkwardly hopping over somebody's tail with his awkward bird legs and then curiously stopping to see what has the guy's attention.]

Umm. What are you looking at?

[The direct route!]

[personal profile] whatsforbreakfast 2015-11-14 10:18 am (UTC)(link)
[His ears prick and turn toward Yue when he gets close, and Ares' tail stops lashing as soon as his head turns to look at him. The pupil of his visible eye is dilated, and he's gone from restless to suddenly very, very still.

Another bird. A bigger one. One he can smell--

He forces himself to relax, tension easing in small degrees, until his posture's less rigid and his wings fold up against his back. Not gonna do it.]

Nothing big! I'm just bird watching.

[And that is an awfully relaxed smile for someone who was agitated a minute ago. It's fine, he's fine, he's totally got this.

He is watching Yue pretty closely, though.]

Bird watching?

[Yue notes that strangely rigid posture (and the equally strange relaxation afterwards), but attributes it to surprise rather than anything more dangerous.

It's with an innocent sort of obliviousness that he looks out the window and notes the bird outside, cocking his head in a coincidentally birdlike manner as he does so. Is that the bird, over there? Just one...]

Hmmm...wouldn't it be easier to watch from outside, though? You might see more that way.
whatsforbreakfast: (you could get a cool eyepatch)

[personal profile] whatsforbreakfast 2015-11-16 06:26 am (UTC)(link)
[Is this guy doing that on purpose? Hard to say if he really just doesn't notice... the birdlike mannerisms don't make him any less distracted, and his eye follows Yue's gaze back out the window. Yep, it's still there.

He tears his attention away and stuffs a particularly large bite of his lunch into his mouth, barely swallowing part of it before he answers again.]

Yeah, but I wanna finish this first...

[And then maybe he'll feel less like bird-hunting. Maybe.

Okay, no, Ares can always eat more, but look-- an attempt is being made, here.

He finishes that mouthful, reaching up to swipe his sleeve across his mouth as he adds-]
If I took it with me they'd just try to steal it, anyway.

[personal profile] twomeals 2015-11-16 06:22 pm (UTC)(link)
[He turns around when Ares speaks, and--]

Woow, you eat fast...

[Or take really big bites, at least? It kinda reminds him of someone back home. Yue struts a couple steps forward, then--hops some more in order to turn around in the space he's got, curiously looking around as he does so. He's a curious kid.]

Maybe they're hungry? If they want to steal your food.

[He's feeling kinda peckish himself, come to think of it.]

[Keats is certainly going to watch that tail (he can't help but flinch a little when it gets close to him), and is going to approach him at a safe, respectable distance. It's not hard to follow the boy's gaze to the bird sitting on the tree outside, and what with the huge clue that are Ares' ears, it's pretty clear what he wants to do.]

[Keats clears his throat, trying his best not to sound amused. It fails.]

You know, I don't think jumping into a window is going to be a great use of your time. But who knows? I could be wrong.

[His ears remain flat as he shoots Keats a very put-out look, the feathers on his wings ruffling while his tail twitches, swishes again, and then manages to still.]

I'm not gonna break it.

[Well. He could, he's broken enough windows in his life, but he's determined not to do it chasing a stupid bird. He turns his attention back to his plate with a huff, feathers ruffling once more before his wings settle as well (for the moment.)]

It's just distracting!

It looks like you already have a good meal. There's no need to get yourself another, unless you just happen to enjoy indulging your gluttony every now and then. But here, let me help you with that.

[He smirks widely, moving a little closely so he can peer out the window at the bird, before reaching his hand out to rap on the window with his knuckle. It takes a few knocks, but the bird eventually hears the noise and flies away, startled.]

[Keats looks over his shoulder, looking ever so smug.]

There you go. Not so hard, was it?
