JULY TEST DRIVE MEME

TEST DRIVE MEME

Welcome to Ryslig's test drive meme! If you're considering apping here, this is where you can try your characters out in the game's setting. A few things to note:

  • You can only app ONE character per round so choose wisely.
  • We now have a Quick Game Facts that simplifies the basic information about the game. Good if you want to see what the game is at a glance!
  • Lots of people have asked good questions on the FAQ, so do take a look.
  • The reserve date has been announced .
  • Test drive meme threads can be used for your roleplay sample!
  • NEW! Players with characters already in the game can earn up to a maximum of 3 coins per bonus coin group (so 6 total) by replying to potential character threads! You will need to have your normal 20 comment AC in the game. You cannot use this to go over the bonus 20 coins per month total, but you can use it if you are missing some threads to reach that coin total. Same rules as normal bonuses apply.

Sample scenarios:
SCENARIO ONE: So you've just arrived, fresh out of the hospital, and already the natives are trying to get on your good side. Offers of food, shelter and other luxuries in return for hoping you don't eat them. They even have some helpful pamphlets to share with you. "How To Deal With Changes", "Alternatives to Human Flesh", "What to Expect When You're Expecting (to turn into a monster)" are all great pamphlets. There's even some detailing certain monsters, and the changes they go through. Some of these seem to have been passed down from one monster to the next.

Among these however, are some... not so helpful ones. "Bunnyipyips And You", "Axe Thief Axehounds," and "So you're becoming a Fur Bearing Trout" among others. Sometimes they have marks on them from previous people who had them saying they are lies, or pointing out good "jokes."

SCENARIO TWO: You've become hopelessly lost in Lager Woods. Paths don't seem to lead where you remember them leading, and you feel as if you're going around in circles. Childlike giggling can be heard from no direction in particular. Suddenly, you stumble upon another character, who seems to be just as lost as you! Perhaps you can find a way out together. Or maybe they want you for lunch...

SCENARIO THREE: You've heard about the fog, but you've never seen it before. Now, the mist surrounds you. Barely able to see before you, you need to get home - and fast. It's far too dangerous in this situation.

SCENARIO FOUR: The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? NOTE: Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.

Tayler is gradually making her way down the street when she notices him. She has no particular destination, having just arrived, so she had been just trying to collect as much information as she possibly can in hopes that it will help her to somehow make sense of what must be some kind of... dream or hallucination. But the solidity of the world is ruining her hope that she might still wake up from this, warm and comfortable in her lovely bed in her flad in Sydney.

She crosses her arms as he speaks and takes note of a number of things about him, her police training forever floating around in the back of her head during every interaction. He is obviously in much the same situation as she is, newly arrived and finding this world to be more than a little lacking. "I can't help you with phone, but a drink sounds like a really good idea right now."

If she caught his attention in his peripheral vision before she spoke up, it's only thanks to the flash of red hair. But almost instantly he knows she isn't who he'd hoped. His chest had tightened minutely at the possibility, though, and he'll be damned if that tension doesn't stay with him anyway.

He takes in the scratches, the accent, the (relatively) modern clothes.

"Please tell me you're in the same boat."

If only ti were a boat. A boat she could understand, a boat she could take apart and reassemble and then sail out of this insanity immediately. But no such luck.

"If by the same boat you mean suddenly finding myself in a technologically backward world full of nonsensical talk about monsters and hoping against hope that it is all a dream, then yes, absolutely. Same boat." She nods emphatically and takes a breath, her head still not wrapping itself around even the simple ideas she just recited back to him. "Or if you mean you really want to drink until you can forget about all of that, also same boat."

"I meant both, clearly." Now that she has his undivided attention, Tony looks the woman up and down. Doesn't take long--she can't be more than five three, five four. Disarmingly cute, redhead, charming accent. If he's going to run into any actual monsters, she's gotta be it, right? She'll get him drunk, he'll let down his guard, and before he knows it she's having a nightcap out of his jugular vein.

It's a good thing this is a dream.

"Let's talk drinks first, Chaney, Jr. and friends after. Where to?" While most of his little entourage has peeled back, a pair of hopeful stragglers gesture back down the road he's just come from. They earn a glance, then he raises an eyebrow at the girl.

"Nice to know you're not alone, eh?" She smiles, but it's laced with sarcasm and something like dread. Denial is a funny thing, but it's all she has to hang onto here where she is so far out of her depth she can barely see daylight.

She hasn't been here long enough to have discovered a bar or anything with even a fair resemblance to one other wise she would probably have already gone in and taken up residence at some dark corner table to try to hide from everything. So when he looks to her after the locals point them on their way, she nods. Perhaps it is foolish desperation, her attempt to cling to anything familiar or at least to anything obviously not of this place, that leads her to accept an invitation to drink alone with a stranger. It doesn't hurt that he's easy on the eyes, though. And also not so big that she couldn't knock him out if the need arises. "Seems as likely as any other direction. I'm sure we'll run into some kind of alcohol before long." She can only hope.

"If I believed every shmuck I dragged out of the ocean was going to turn into a monster and eat me?" Tony takes the lead, but he avoids walking directly in front of her as they move off. He's got to crane his head back and to the right to look at her, but he's not too proud to announce his paranoia. "Well first, I'd stop dragging them out of the ocean. Screw 'em. But also, I wouldn't leave home without at least a buzz going. Trust me, we'll find the stuff."

She is quick to follow, like a good little soldier used to jumping off at a word, and skips a step to keep pace with him. Tilting her head up to meet his eyes as he speaks, she does make a point to keep her peripheral vision open to anything that might look like a bar. What she wouldn't give for the comforting familiarity of the Cutter right now. Or the Nemesis. It wouldn't have alcohol, but she could pack herself and her knew friend into it and sail right back to Sydney and forget all of this ever happened.

"You make a good point, though. I don't remember being fished out of the water. They could have left me to drown and I'd never have been able to do anything about it. So why would they pull us out of the water when they think we are likely to eat them at some point?"

"Aren't plot holes fun?" Though it's safer to just go ahead and assume they were only given, like, ten percent of the script. Helpful as these assholes have pretended to be, they haven't actually told him anything.

"Why are they just letting us wander around off our leashes like this? If they put even a teensy bit of actual effort into making their story credible they might be able to punk Tom Cruise. Maybe. If they threw in a thing about Xenu and...triangles--" He stops suddenly, snaps his fingers and points at a sign that's just come into view, posted above the door of a building that's got at least a few bodies shuffling around behind the windows.

"'The Devil's Nest', huh? Cute."
