JULY TEST DRIVE MEME

TEST DRIVE MEME

Welcome to Ryslig's test drive meme! If you're considering apping here, this is where you can try your characters out in the game's setting. A few things to note:

  • You can only app ONE character per round so choose wisely.
  • We now have a Quick Game Facts that simplifies the basic information about the game. Good if you want to see what the game is at a glance!
  • Lots of people have asked good questions on the FAQ, so do take a look.
  • The reserve date has been announced .
  • Test drive meme threads can be used for your roleplay sample!
  • NEW! Players with characters already in the game can earn up to a maximum of 3 coins per bonus coin group (so 6 total) by replying to potential character threads! You will need to have your normal 20 comment AC in the game. You cannot use this to go over the bonus 20 coins per month total, but you can use it if you are missing some threads to reach that coin total. Same rules as normal bonuses apply.

Sample scenarios:
SCENARIO ONE: So you've just arrived, fresh out of the hospital, and already the natives are trying to get on your good side. Offers of food, shelter and other luxuries in return for hoping you don't eat them. They even have some helpful pamphlets to share with you. "How To Deal With Changes", "Alternatives to Human Flesh", "What to Expect When You're Expecting (to turn into a monster)" are all great pamphlets. There's even some detailing certain monsters, and the changes they go through. Some of these seem to have been passed down from one monster to the next.

Among these however, are some... not so helpful ones. "Bunnyipyips And You", "Axe Thief Axehounds," and "So you're becoming a Fur Bearing Trout" among others. Sometimes they have marks on them from previous people who had them saying they are lies, or pointing out good "jokes."

SCENARIO TWO: You've become hopelessly lost in Lager Woods. Paths don't seem to lead where you remember them leading, and you feel as if you're going around in circles. Childlike giggling can be heard from no direction in particular. Suddenly, you stumble upon another character, who seems to be just as lost as you! Perhaps you can find a way out together. Or maybe they want you for lunch...

SCENARIO THREE: You've heard about the fog, but you've never seen it before. Now, the mist surrounds you. Barely able to see before you, you need to get home - and fast. It's far too dangerous in this situation.

SCENARIO FOUR: The time has come and you've found yourself becoming a monster. Is the change instant, or gradual? Are you familiar enough with monsters to know what's happening, or is it a complete shock? NOTE: Feel free to pick any monster type for this prompt, but note that you may not get the same one in game.

[When Sadie calls out, there's a loud thump as an answer as something hits a tree. That probably doesn't help her nerves any at all. Though soon after the thump the reason for it becomes clear. A teenage girl walks into view with a shovel in her hands. She glances at Sadie carefully before loosening her grip slightly and letting the tip of the shovel hit the ground.

'I'm not going to hurt you.']

You the one calling? Didn't want to call out, sorry if that scared you.

[She swallows a little.] But I guess we're both lost, huh.
eyesforward: (maniacal karaoke)

[personal profile] eyesforward 2015-07-27 05:41 am (UTC)(link)
[Sadie does indeed jump a little when she hears the thump, her pupils shrinking to pin pricks as she stiffens up, momentarily holding her breath without really meaning to as her gaze drifts nervously towards the source of the noise. The girl herself is blessedly not very intimidating, but the shovel is kind of an unnecessary touch that leaves her a little on edge. Over all, though, Sadie seems to relax a little bit, letting out the breath she wasn't aware she was holding.]

O-oh, yeah, that was me.

And... yeah, sure looks like it.

[Better than being lost alone, though.]

Are you from around...wherever this place is?
tasteslikesurvival: (This won't be good)

[personal profile] tasteslikesurvival 2015-07-27 05:48 am (UTC)(link)
[Call it habit. Kurumi never liked being far from a shovel--especially if she was going into a scary looking forest. Never hurt anyone to be prepared. ...not that a shovel would do much damage against some of those creatures she's seen walking around. Kurumi loosened her grip a little more on the shovel. She doesn't let go entirely but it was as much of a show of good faith as she could allow herself.]

You didn't sound like those voice so I thought I better try to find you before something else did.

[She scratches the back of her neck with the hand not holding the shovel.] This place? Nope. There weren't any monsters back home at the school.

[...Well. Technically. If you didn't count zombies. The Club made a point of simply calling them ghosts, creepers, or delinquents out of habit. But all of the creatures she saw here weren't zombies.]
eyesforward: (nice seaweed collection I guess)

[personal profile] eyesforward 2015-07-27 06:01 am (UTC)(link)
Rgh. Right.

[Same boat, Sadie figures. She feels herself genuinely starting to feel less tense, both frustrated and glad to have ended up with someone else in her situation. Less helpless, in a way.]

Are you talking about the like...laughter?

[Sadie glances over her shoulder. It's not the first time she's encountered that, actually—she ran into once back home, when she thought she was dealing with a poltergeist or similar... That was a bad night.]

Sounds like a kid, but I doubt that's what it is...

—Um. Why do you have a shovel, by the way?
tasteslikesurvival: (Yeah shovels)

[personal profile] tasteslikesurvival 2015-07-27 06:09 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, the laughter. At first I thought it might have been a friend of mine. She's not fond of spooky places, though.

[Yuki might have thought it was just a field trip or something. Kurumi wouldn't put it past her but she wouldn't go this far. Not alone.]

Not sure what it is, though.

[If you like that shovel so much, why don't you marry it?]

This? [She's startled slightly by the question then gives a reckless grin.] Heh. That's easy. I've seen those monsters walking around. Figured I should have something to protect myself if one of them decides it wants a snack.
eyesforward: (that's......nice.........)

[personal profile] eyesforward 2015-07-27 06:14 am (UTC)(link)
[Sadie blinks, then claps her hands against her face, dragging them down and pulling at her eyelids on the way down involuntarily.] Ugh!

Why didn't I think to grab something before I ran out of that place? I feel so—stupid! I just panicked, and...

[She sighs, smiling kind of weakly.]

Well, at least you've got your head on straight!

[Which is. You know. A little strange. But Sadie's not gonna think about that right now.]
tasteslikesurvival: (She's hanging by a hair)

[personal profile] tasteslikesurvival 2015-07-27 06:19 am (UTC)(link)
[Kurumi can't blame her. Even in a situation like this it was easy to panic. She raises up her free hand in what she hopes is a calming gesture.]

Easy! I probably would have done the same if I didn't look around for my friends before heading off. [She didn't find any of the other Club members but maybe that was a good thing.] Anyone would panic.

'Sides... There's plenty of heavy branches here. I could whack one off for you.
eyesforward: please don't take them! (Default)

[personal profile] eyesforward 2015-07-27 06:42 am (UTC)(link)
Really?

[Sadie brightens up. She's not bad with a pointy stick...]

That'd be great!
tasteslikesurvival: (Yeah shovels)

[personal profile] tasteslikesurvival 2015-07-27 06:45 am (UTC)(link)
No problem. I got this!

[She eyes up a nearby tree before gripping her shovel with both hands. Kurumi slams the head of the shovel against a branch with a crack as it fell to the ground.]

This work?
eyesforward: (her ass is like a giant turkey)

[personal profile] eyesforward 2015-07-27 05:41 pm (UTC)(link)
[Sadie takes a step back as she anticipates the branch's fall, then scurries towards it after it kicks up some of the settled leaves with its landing.]

Yeah! Better than nothing, probably. I mean, I doubt a branch is gonna do much against some kind of heinous monster, but—

[Sadie laughs a little nervously. But she remains as optimistic as she can, picking up the branch and twisting off some of the smaller limbs. They're still young, tough and pliant, but Sadie's got good arms.

She glances at Kurumi as she idly cleans up the branch, blinking.]

You know, you're a lot stronger than you look. I'm impressed.
tasteslikesurvival: (Yeah shovels)

[personal profile] tasteslikesurvival 2015-07-27 08:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Just aim for the face and you should do just fine. I'll be watching your back, too. [She gives a small smile at that. Even in a strange place it was nice settling back into her old role.

Kurumi leans on her shovel, watching her. She blinks back at the compliment.]

Eh? Thanks. I got lucky, though. I thought I'd need a few more whacks. [She straightens up a bit.] I used to run track. Did a bunch of strength training to keep my joints working right; guess it stuck.

[Kurumi didn't even realize she used past tense there.]
eyesforward: (slowly eats a tin can)

[personal profile] eyesforward 2015-07-27 09:57 pm (UTC)(link)
[Sadie just kinda muffles a giggle when Kurumi says she has her back, rolling her eyes with a smile.

Sadie glances back at her when she talks about track, though, twisting off the final twig from her branch, holding it forth-right to inspect it. It's kinda wonky, but it's thick. A good whack would probably hurt... Or at least she could toss it and run.]

I never really did organized sports in school. Kinda wish I had, though. I usually win athletic competitions back home, and I'm actually stronger than I realized... Feel like I probably squandered some kinda sporty potential.

[Sadie pauses, blinking, finding it ridiculous she's kind of shooting the shit with this stranger when she was just freaking out, and while she's currently in a pretty harrowing situation... but everything was so much easier with company, wasn't it? People needed each other.]

Good thing you were good in track, though... That'll probably be the most useful skill here, huh?

[Sadie kind of ruefully plucks at the gnarled, pointed end of the broken branch with her fingertip, unwittingly kind of sulking.]
tasteslikesurvival: (A girl and her shovel.)

[personal profile] tasteslikesurvival 2015-07-28 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
[It might seem silly to just chat like this in a spooky forest but, well. Kurumi's learned her lesson before. Being alone usually meant trouble. Stranger or not, it probably was for the best.

She smirks back at the giggle.]
If I'm honest, I'm just a thrill-seeker, you know? Hearing the firing gun got me going.

[Not to mention the fact that there were some cute boys on the team when she joined but that... that. Had been a long time ago.] You still have time.

[She walks over closer, shovel still loosely held.]

I've got a handicap with this thing. 'Sides, I learned that just because I'm strong doesn't mean I can survive by myself. [She glances upwards to the tops of the trees for a moment before shrugging.] Anyways, name's Kurumi. How bad were things over on your end before you got dragged here?
eyesforward: (pic#9329309)

[personal profile] eyesforward 2015-07-28 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
[Wow... Sadie gawks, feeling a little stupid. She finds Kurumi really cool, but she's also a little worried about the idea of someone "getting going" based off a gun shot. Strange, conflicting feelings. Yay.]

Here? You mean—before I got pulled out of the lake? [Sadie follows Kurumi's gaze, staring at the vast silhouettes of the tree tops.]

Not bad at all, honestly... At least, not for me.

[Her expression twists with sadness, her fingers curling into fists as she thinks of her friends back home, and her coworker—with whom she had a sort of complicated relationship status.]

It was...pretty good.
tasteslikesurvival: (Sigh)

[personal profile] tasteslikesurvival 2015-07-28 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
[It's an adrenaline junkie thing. Maybe it was why she did so well after that day. She sighs as she hears the answer. Of course.] ... Sorry. I said a weird thing.

[No one who was dragged out of the water knew what she was talking about the infection. It was.. good. That no one had to deal with that. She forces a smile.] I miss home, too, though. I keep thinking about the Club.
eyesforward: (life is a void)

[personal profile] eyesforward 2015-07-28 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
School club, or something?

[Sadie takes a step forward, glancing back at Kurumi.]

Hey, what direction did you come from? Do you remember?
tasteslikesurvival: (This won't be good)

[personal profile] tasteslikesurvival 2015-07-28 04:51 am (UTC)(link)
Something like that.

[She glances around the area, looking for the tree she had hit before walking into sight. And--]

What. I thought I came from that direction!
